It succeeded the European Coordination of Green Parties founded in Liège in 1984 by the Green parties from Benelux, UK, France, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. Currently, the EGP is made of 35 member parties (12 of them sharing 34 seats in the European Parliament) and 9 observer parties (with one seat in the European Parliament).
